Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina hailed the Indian soldiers who died during the 1971 war and felicitated their descendants with scholarships. She also asserted that youth of both the countries need to interact closely like their leaders did in the past.
PM Hasina, who is on a 4-day visit to India, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar felicitated the descendants of Indian soldiers, who lost their lives during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971, with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Student Scholarship.
While addressing a gathering there first, S Jaishankar said, “PM Modi said Bangabandhu is our national hero too. Both countries have commissioned a biopic on him which is nearing completion. The liberation war of 1971 continues to inspire our bilateral relationship.”
The Bangladeshi Prime Minister started her speech by paying respects to the Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the Bangladesh liberation war in 1971. She said it was an honour for all Bangladeshis to remember Indian brothers and war veterans who sacrificed their lives for our independence and sovereignty.
Conferment of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Student Scholarship to 100 students of class X and 100 students of class XII, is a homage to Indian heroes who made supreme sacrifice for our cause, she added.
PM Sheikh Hasina went on to assert that youths of both countries (India and Bangladesh) need to interact more closely and connect to the shared history because they are future leaders and leaders across the borders must work in close collaboration like our leaders did in past.
