Bollywood star couple Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, one of the most loved jodis in b-town, recently tied the knot after dating for almost five years. Days after their wedding, it was reported that wedding bells are ringing for celebrity lovebirds – Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty and Indian cricketer KL Rahul. However, the latest report has put rumours to rest.
On Tuesday, an entertainment portal reported that Suniel Shetty’s daughter Athiya will walk down the aisle this year. The report also stated that Athiya and Rahul were planning a South Indian wedding. While the report instantly went viral and created quite some buzz, Athiya’s friend has now rubbished the rumours of a 2022 wedding for the star couple.
In an interview with the Times of India, Athiya’s friend spoke about the wedding rumours and set the record straight. She said that both, Athiya and Rahul, currently have a lot on their plates professionally. With several projects lined up and the T20 World Cup 2022, the couple is busy working and has no time for a wedding this year.
She was quoted as saying, “It’s not true! There’s no wedding happening this year. Athiya has two projects starting at different intervals in this year. One is for the web domain, the other is a theatrical movie. KL Rahul has the world cup coming up and his schedule is blocked with different tournaments before that. With their hands full, where do they have the time to have a wedding this year?”

The lovebirds reportedly started dating in 2019. While they initially kept it a secret, their social media PDA and other hints were enough to add fuel to the fire. Their romance isn’t a hush-hush affair anymore.
Last year, along with the partners of other Indian cricketers, even Athiya joined her beau for the England tour. Reports also said that Rahul had listed Athiya’s name as his partner in the official BCCI forms.
KL also shares a great bond with his girlfriend’s superstar father Suniel Shetty and brother Ahan Shetty. They are often seen spending some guy time together.
