Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan was taken to a hospital following his side’s Super Four clash in the Asia Cup 2022 against arch-rivals India. Rizwan had sustained a knee injury during Pakistan’s bowling innings when he landed awkwardly on his right knee. The 30-year-old cricketer is set to undergo MRI scan ahead of his side’s clash against Afghanistan on Wednesday, September 7.
Rizwan had leapt high to grab a bouncer. In the process, Rizwan couldn’t get the landing right and later was in agonising pain before the physio attended him. Rizwan was in extreme pain as he couldn’t move his leg much as the match saw a length delay. However, the Peshawar-born batter was back on his feet soon enough to continue.
Rizwan braved the pain to smash a match-winning 71 off 51 with the bat, opening the innings to help Pakistan get over the line. The 30-year-old batter after the match said that his foot was okay. “My foot feels ok at the moment but I’ll get a better idea about it later. But I feel great and nothing can be better than Pakistan winning,” Rizwan said after the match.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that Rizwan was shifted to hospital soon after the thrilling victory in Dubai and to determine the extent of his injury, he will undergo MRI scan, as per the News.com.pk.
Pakistan will hope for a speedy recovery for Rizwan, who has been the leading run-getter for the side and has shepherded the batting with skipper Babar Azam returning low scores in three matches. Rizwan with 43, 78* and 71 has been one of the stars for the Men in Green, however, the champion batter is known to be a fighter. Rizwan had braved chest infection before the T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final to play a memorable knock against Australia in the knockouts last year.
