Arjun Tendulkar has emulated his father Sachin Tendulkar’s footsteps and smashed a century on his Ranji Trophy debut for Goa. Arjun, who is a bowling all-rounder, showcased his batting skills for Goa and became the 2nd batsman from the line-up to breach that break.
Coming in to bat at number 7, Arjun breached the three-figure mark on the 178th ball he faced. He hit 12 boundaries and 2 sixes en route to his century. The left-handed batsman is still batting on day 2 of the fixture and will aim to convert his century into a double ton.
With this ton, Arjun has joined the elite list of batsmen with a century on Ranji Trophy debut. His father, Sachin Tendulkar, had hit a century on his debut for Mumbai against Gujarat in the 1988/89 season. Sachin Tendulkar had made his Ranji Trophy debut in December 1988.
Arjun had also started his domestic career for Mumbai but moved to Goa before the start of the ongoing season. After playing junior cricket for Mumbai, the 23-year-old had made it to the senior team in the 2020/21 season.
Arjun played 2 T20s for Mumbai in 2021. He made it to Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team in the 2021/22 season but didn’t get to make his debut. He moved to Goa this year and has now played all three formats for his new team.
Arjun, Suyash Prabhudesai steer Goa past 400
Apart from Arjun, Suyash Prabhudesai has also done well for Goa and has breached the 150-run mark. Suyash, who has played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL, is batting on 172. The right-handed batsman has already registered the best first-class score of his career and is eyeing to breach the 200-run mark.
Courtesy of their tons, Goa are in a strong position and have breached the 400-run mark on day 2. The Darshan Misal-led side is expected to declare the innings before the end of the day’s play.
