The popular television show ‘Anupamaa’ has been surrounded by several controversies over the past few days. The show hit the headlines again after one of the crew members, Vineet Kumar Mandal, passed away on the set after being electrocuted. The President of All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA), Suresh Gupta, called out the channel and producers of ‘Anupamaa’ for not providing enough safety precautions.
While speaking to Screen, Suresh Gupta said, “Anupamaa is being shot for a few years now. However, on November 14, there was an incident on the set where one of our workers, Vineet Kumar Mandal, 32 years old, who worked as a camera attendant passed away after getting electrocuted during the shoot.”
“The channel, producer, and production house have been trying to suppress the matter. Wrong news was spread, but such incidents keep happening every time on sets and the workers die whether through an electric shock or due to a set fire. This happens because the production houses and channels don’t provide enough safety precautions to save a few pennies,” he added.
“Wires are unexposed which becomes fatal, but these people see the crew workers as pests. As the president of the All India Cine Workers Association, I request the government authorities to register an FIR against the makers of Anupamaa and the officials at Film City for murder. All the authorities at Film City also know about the negligence on sets, but they never take action. The deceased person’s family should be given Rs 1 crore as compensation and an investigation should be carried out,” Suresh Gupta further said.
The makers of ‘Anupamaa’ are yet to react to this tragic incident.
