Anupam Kher, Kangana Ranaut mourn former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe’s demise, call him India’s ‘great friend’

The untimely demise of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has sent shockwaves across the globe. Abe, 67, passed away after being shot at in the western Japanese city of Nara on Friday, July 8.
Condolences have been pouring in for the longest-serving Prime Minister of Japan from all corners of the world. Bollywood celebrities also took to their respective social media handles to express their shock and grief over the unforeseen incident.
Amongst the first ones to mourn Abe’s demise was Anupam Kher. In his tweet, The Kashmir Files actor hailed Abe as ‘one of the most compassionate world leaders’ and called him India’s ‘great friend’.
“Deeply saddened & shocked by the assassination of former PM of Japan #ShinzoAbe! He was one of the most compassionate world leaders! And a great friend of India! His face reflected kindness! Very rare for a person in politics! My condolences to his family & people of Japan!” tweeted Anupam
Kangana Ranaut took to her Instagram stories to share her condolence message. The Dhaakad actress wrote, “Japan’s former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has died after being shot, while giving a speech in the western city of Nara today, sad day. India lost a great friend. Om Shanti.”
“Shocking, horrible and sad. RIP,” said Ranvir Shorey.
Meanwhile, as a mark of respect to the departed leader, the Government of India has announced a day’s State Mourning on Saturday, July 9, throughout the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in remembrance of Abe, shared a blog post titled ‘My Friend, Abe San’. “In the passing away of Abe, Japan and the world have lost a great visionary. And, I have lost a dear friend,” it read.
Abe was shot at while he was campaigning for his party. He was airlifted to a hospital for emergency treatment but was later pronounced dead.
