As far as admirers of Suryakumar Yadav go, there are none bigger than Virat Kohli. Over the last few months, Kohli has got the best house in the ground to see the 32-year-old demolish opposition bowling attacks and his facial expressions on seeing those knocks from the non-striker’s end has told a story in itself.
Kohli might not be part of the Indian squad for the ongoing New Zealand series but that did not stop him from appreciating Suryakumar’s incredible knock in the ongoing 2nd T20I between India and New Zealand at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
Kohli took to Twitter and called Suryakumar as the ‘best in the world’ and stated that while he did not watch the match, he was sure that it was another video game innings from the explosive Indian batter. “Numero Uno showing why he’s the best in the world. Didn’t watch it live but I’m sure this was another video game innings by him, wrote Kohli on Twitter.
Suryakumar fires India to 191
In Kohli’s absence, Suryakumar was promoted to the number three spot and made the most of the opportunity. While the other Indian batters did not look comfortable on the crease, the Mumbai Indians star looked a league above the others as he played an unbeaten knock of 111 in just 51 balls and registered 11 boundaries and seven sixes to his name.
Earlier New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first as India put up a brand new opening partnership of Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant. Pant’s new position did not help improve his fortunes in T20I cricket as he was dismissed for a knock of 6 in 13 balls while Kishan made 36 1n 31 balls.
Talking about Suryakumar, he became only the second male player in history of T20I cricket to score more than 1,000 runs in a calendar year during the T20 World cup. He also holds the number one spot in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings.
