After imposing Rs 30 lakh fine and other penalties for the alleged peegate incident on Air India New York-New Delhi flight, the airline has now been fined Rs 10 lakh by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for yet another peegate incident that reportedly took place on board Paris-New Delhi flight in December 2022.
According to a report by news agency PTI, the fine has been slapped for ‘not reporting’ the said incident on board the Paris-New Delhi flight AI-142. “Enforcement action in the form of a financial penalty of Rs 10,00,000 has been imposed on Air India for not reporting the incident to DGCA and delaying in referring the matter to its Internal Committee, which is a violation of applicable DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements,” a statement from the DGCA said
According to the DGCA, the incident of passenger misbehaviour occured on December 6, 2022 and came to the notice of the aviation regulator this month. Among the said incidents, one passenger was caught smoking in the lavatory, ignoring the instructions from the crew.
“One drunk passenger was caught smoking in the lavatory and not adhering to the crew instructions, and another passenger allegedly relieved himself on a vacant seat and blanket of a fellow female passenger when she went to the lavatory,” the statement said.
Earlier this month, on january 20, DGCA imposed a penalty of Rs 30 lakh on Air India and suspended the license of the pilot-in-command of the New York-Delhi, in which a passenger allegedly urinated on an elderly woman. The incident took place on November 26, 2022.
