Amid the surge in coronavirus infections in the country, the former defence doctors will now provide online consultation on the e-Sanjeevani OPD website to all citizens, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on Friday.
According to the Defence Ministry, veteran doctors have offered their services to help people needing medical care in the time of the Covid-19 crisis and this can be availed by any civilian on the website https://esanjeevaniopd.in.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had on Thursday said that the Indian armed forces, as well as organisations like Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and National Cadet Corps (NCC), are engaged in mitigating the sufferings of the people amid the Covid-19 surge.
In a blog post on his website, Singh enlisted the steps -including mobilisation of health professionals and setting up of new Covid facilities – taken by the defence ministry’s organisations to deal with the surge.
India reels under 2nd Covid-19 wave
India is currently reeling under the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the Health Ministry, a total of 4,14,188 new positive cases of coronavirus reported in the country in the last 24 hours, the highest-ever single-day spike.
The new infections pushed the country’s overall caseload to 2,14,91,598, while there are 36,45,164 active cases in India right now. The death toll also rose by 3,915, taking the total fatalities to 2,34,083.
As many as 3,31,507 patients were discharged from hospitals and Covid care centres, taking the overall recoveries to 1,76,12,351, the ministry said. So far, a total of 16,49,73,058 people have so far been vaccinated across India
