Always a captain: Virat Kohli dons leader’s hat as Rohit Sharma watches during 4th Test

The 4th Test match between India and Australia is headed towards a tame draw as the home team has only managed two wickets in the two complete sessions played thus far. India only managed one wicket of Matthew Kuhnemann in the first session and the sole wicket of Travis Head in the second session. Australia have gained the lead and the two captains might opt to shake hands once the mandatory overs are bowled.
Watching the bowlers struggle early on day 5, Virat Kohli couldn’t control himself and donned the leader’s hat. He and Rohit Sharma walked towards Axar Patel, who was getting ready to bowl an over. Kohli had a detailed chat with the bowler and instructed him where to bowl.
Captain Rohit Sharma was also part of the discussion but he preferred to watch Kohli giving tips to the spinner. The chat though didn’t work for Axar and he hasn’t been able to scalp a wicket yet.
Kohli gave up Test captaincy in January 2022 and isn’t part of the leadership group. Rohit, who replaced Kohli as captain, was slated to assist him in the Test series against South Africa but missed out due to an injury. Kohli now plays under Rohit in all three formats.
India qualify for World Test Championship Final, set to win series 2-1
The draw will not have any impact on India’s chances as they have already made it to the final of the World Test Championship. New Zealand’s win over Sri Lanka saw India making it to the final. The draw will mean that India will register another series victory over Australia and will win the series 2-1.
The Rohit-led side won the first two Test matches inside three days to take a 2-0 lead. Australia stunned the home team in Indore but it didn’t prove to be enough. The teams will square off in three ODIs after the end of the Test series.
