Akhilesh Yadav ‘pushed off’ his father to become party chief: BJP attacks Samajwadi leader ahead of Mainpuri bypolls

Ahead of the Lok Sabha bypolls in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya launched a blistering attack on Akhilesh Yadav accusing him of “pushing off” his father to occupy the post of Samajwadi Party (SP) chief.
While speaking to media, Maurya said, “It will take Akhilesh Yadav another 10 lives to become like his father Mulayam Singh Yadav.”
Akhilesh Yadav pushed off his father from the post of chief to sit on it himself,” he alleged.
The bypoll to Mainpuri seat has been necessitated following the death of sitting MP and SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Akhilesh has fielded his wife Dimple Yadav from the Mainpuri seat and Samajwadi Party’s allies have appealed to Opposition parties not to field candidates from the seat to honour Mulayam Singh Yadav’s memory.
However, BJP remains defiant and has confirmed its participation in the upcoming bypoll.
Dimple Yadav represented Kannauj winning the bypoll in 2012 and then again winning it in 2014 general elections.
She, however, lost the seat in the 2019 elections to BJP’s Subrat Pathak.
On being told that fielding Dimple Yadav in Mainpuri bypoll has led to confusion among the workers in Kannauj, Akhilesh Yadav described Kannauj as his ‘karmabhoomi’ and said that the people of Kannauj have elected him as MP thrice.
