Air India has received the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s (DGCA) approval to modify aircraft interiors in-house, marking a key milestone in its fleet revamp and expansion plans. Owned by the Tata Group, the full-service airline is collaborating with Tata Technologies to elevate cabin interiors, promising enhanced comfort and style for passengers.

In a statement release on Monday, with the newly granted Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the DGCA, Air India can now independently design and implement interior modifications across its fleet, streamlining the process and allowing for faster upgrades. This move supports Air India’s commitment to delivering an improved in-flight experience as the airline works towards expanded operations and a refreshed fleet.
“DOA is a transformative step towards enhancing Air India’s in-house capabilities, which has been bolstered by decisions to set up its own engineering, maintenance and training facilities. This will enhance operational efficiency and make the airline more self-reliant,” it added.

Future Plans Of Services For Other Airlines: DGCA

In this landmark authorization, announced on Monday, will not only enable Air India to speed up its cabin refurbishment and modernization efforts but also pave the way for offering these services to other Indian airlines in the future.

According to an official statement, the Design Organisation Approval (DOA) is a significant step forward, enhancing Air India’s ability to manage and maintain its fleet independently and efficiently. Campbell Wilson, Air India’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, highlighted that this approval underscores the airline’s technical capabilities and commitment to delivering a superior customer experience through ongoing improvements to aircraft interiors.

“By leveraging our global aerospace expertise, we are committed to delivering next-generation aircraft interiors that not only meet the highest standards of functionality and safety but also enhance customer satisfaction,” Tata Technologies Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Warren Harris said.

Partners With Tata Technologies For Fleet Efficiency

In partnership with Tata Technologies, the airline will integrate advanced digital solutions for streamlined maintenance, improving efficiency, and minimizing downtime.

“This will improve operational efficiency, reduce downtime, and ensure that Air India’s fleet remains fit to fly, further enhancing passenger safety, comfort, and operational reliability,” the release stated.

The Tata Group currently operates Air India, Air India Express, and Vistara, with Vistara set to merge with Air India on November 11.
