After Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra mulling reverting to Old Pension Scheme? Here’s what CM Eknath Shinde said

After Himachal Pradesh government kept its poll promise and reverted to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for government employees, the Maharashtra government has now hinted that it is mulling reverting to OPS for teachers and government employees.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that the state education department is studying the old pension scheme and added that the state government is ‘positive’ about the implementation of old pension scheme in Maharashtra for teachers and government employees.
“The state education department is studying the old pension scheme,” Shinde said in Thane, while addressing a rally for the Legislative Council polls. As reported earlier, under the old pension scheme, the government employees get a defined pension equivalent to 50 per cent of the last drawn salary. Under the new pension scheme, however, the government employees have to contribute a part of their existing salary towards pensions.

Will respond to opposition’s allegations via action

“The government is positive about the old pension scheme for teachers and government employees, non-aided schools, and also for 25 per cent reservation in English medium schools. The education department is studying the old pension scheme,” Shinde said, news agency PTI quoted.
Questioning the status of MoUs signed by the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, Shinde said that his government will repond to the opposition – which has targetted the state government over projects going to neighbouring states – through action.
The state government bagged many investment proposals at the recently concluded Davos meet, where Shinde led a delegation of the state government.
