The 14th edition of the Aero India show kicked off in Bengaluru on Monday where over 800 companies from 98 countries are taking part.
At Asia’s largest aero show, Aero India 2023, which is being held by the Indian Department of Defense Production from February 13–17, Russian companies are displaying their defence systems, which they intend to ‘Make in India’.
Russia is demonstrating models of the latest S-400 Triumf long-range and S-350E Vityaz medium-range surface-to-air missile systems at the Aero India show.
Russian companies intend to manufacture these defence systems in India under the Make in India Scheme with collaboration with Indian companies.
The manufacturing of Kalashnikov AK-203 assault rifles in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi has already begun by the Indo-Russian joint venture.
Meanwhile, the five-day Aero India event, on the theme ‘The runway to a billion opportunities’, will showcase India’s growth in aerospace and defence capabilities.
Inaugurating the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the event reflects India’s strength and aspirations.
“The New India of the 21st century will neither miss any opportunity nor will it lack any effort. We are geared up. We are bringing revolution in every sector on the path of reforms. The country, which was the biggest defence importer for decades, is now exporting defence equipment to 75 countries of the world. The country’s defence exports have increased six times in the last five years. In 2021-22, we exported more than 1.5 billion dollars worth defence equipment,” he said.
