Gunshots were fired at Amritsar’s Golden Temple premises on Wednesday morning where SAD leaders, including party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, were offering ‘seva’ under the religious punishments pronounced for them by Sri Akal Takht Sahib. According to reports, Police have arrested the man who allegedly attempted to shoot Sukhbir Singh Badal outside the Golden temple.
On the incident, ADCP Harpal Singh said, “There were proper security arrangements here. Sukhbir ji was properly covered and Narayan Singh Chaura (assailant) was here yesterday as well. Today also, he first paid obeisance to the Guru.” He further informed no one was hurt by the bullet.
Reacting to the incident, SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema thanked Guru Nanak, saying, “Jako Rakhe Saaiyan, Maar Sake Na Koy. ‘Sevaks’ were offering ‘seva’ here and SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was sitting by the Guru Ram Das Dwar as ‘Chowkidar’. A bullet was fired in his direction.”
He further expressed his concern about the incident while talking to the media and questioned the Chief Ministers of Punjab, “Where do you want to take Punjab?”
Former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal was spotted sitting in a wheelchair on Tuesday morning with a plaque around his neck and a spear in his hand at Amritsar’s Golden Temple. It was the second day of his penance after being declared ‘tankhaiya’ (guilty of religious misconduct) in August by the highest temporal authority in Sikhism – Akal Takht. Badal remained the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab from 2007 to 2017.
