The Delhi Capitals were able to make a very strong squad in the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction. The franchise roped in many strong names such as KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc, Harry Brook and many more who can help the franchise in winning the title this year. DC will also play under the leadership of a new captain and KL Rahul have a very strong chance to lead the franchise. Rahul was roped in at a price of INR 14 crores and the latter has the experience of leading Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.
However, despite all the experience former Indian opener Aakash Chopra hasn’t picked KL Rahul as the new captain of the Delhi Capitals. Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Chopra revealed that he will pick Axar Patel in place of Rahul as the new captain of the franchise. Patel was retained by DC for a massive price of INR 16.50 crores and has been the top performer of the franchise after Rishabh Pant in the past few editions of the cash rich league. Chopra stated that it is a KKR like situation in DC and the captain can be Axar Patel.
Aakash Chopra said, “Who will be the captain? Their situation is like KKR. It could be Axar Patel. I don’t mind him being the captain. If you give me the option, I would say make Axar the captain. He is extremely underrated, a very mature, fantastic performer, and he will run the team very well. He is someone who will command respect.”
Axar Patel has always delivered whenever he has been given chance to play. Patel played an integral role in Team India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph and if he is given chance to captain Delhi Capitals, he has all the qualities to prove an asset.
