It looks like the season of sequels and prequels. After announcements about Hera Pheri 3, Bhagam Bhag, and Dhoom 3, among others, reports of Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty’s Cocktail getting a sequel have also surfaced.
According to Peeping Moon, the 2012 hit will be getting a new twist with a fresh cast led by Shahid Kapoor. The project has been in discussion for a long time, and Maddock Films have now zeroed in on Shahid, who earlier collaborated with them for ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’. Homi Adajania, who helmed the first part, will sit in the director’s chair again.
Source close to the production told the media house, “Dinesh Vijan and Homi Adajania have been toying with the idea of a ‘Cocktail’ sequel for years, and they’ve now crafted a storyline that they believe matches the magic of the first film. Although ‘Cocktail 2’ features a completely new narrative, its tone and vibrant setting reminisce about the original, thus being labeled a sequel.”
“Shahid loved the story and is already on board, while discussions with several leading young actresses are in progress,” the source further shared.
About Cocktail 2
Just like Cocktail, the second instalment is also going to be an urban rom-com that explores the complicated web of love and friendship. The first part showed Saif Ali Khan getting stuck in a love triangle with Diana Fenty – a shy girl from a small town and Deepika Padukone – a flirt, who lives life on her own terms. The film also featured Randeep Hooda, Dimple Kapadia, and Boman Irani in pivotal roles.
Discussions about other cast members for the sequel are still on. Earlier, certain reports suggested that Ananya Pandey and Sara Ali Khan were in talks to play the female leads in the film, however, no confirmation was given by the production house in the matter.
