The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is determined to host the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 entirely in Pakistan, despite strong opposition from India. With the tournament’s schedule announcement looming, the PCB has made it clear that it will not back down on its decision to stage the event on home soil.
PCB Appoints Sumair Ahmad As Tournament Director
In a step of strategic maneuvering in the impasse situation, the PCB has appointed the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the board, Sumair Ahmad, as the Tournament Director for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The PCB formally announced, Pakistan is keen to host the event under the direct supervision of Sumair Ahmad at all levels of organizing this tournament.
Mohsin Naqvi On Sumair Ahmed’s Appointment
“Sumair is an exceptionally organised professional with a wealth of administrative expertise. Coupled with his unwavering passion for cricket, I am confident he will deliver an unforgettable ICC Champions Trophy 2025 for players, officials and fans alike.” Mohsin Naqvi said in official Press Release by PCB
“This tournament marks a historic milestone as the biggest sporting event in Pakistan’s recent history. With Sumair leading the way, the global cricket community can rest assured that the event will meet the highest standards of excellence synonymous with Pakistan.”
PCB Against Hybrid Model: Committed To Hosting The Event
BCCI has proposed a hybrid model which suggests that some of the matches must be played in neutral venues, which has flatly been rejected by the PCB. The PCB is demanding a written explanation from India on why it may potentially withdraw from the tournament. This stand-off has resulted in both countries unable to budge an inch, with ICC in the middle, unable to do anything because Indian government is unwilling to give travel permission to Pakistan.
“The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 promises to showcase Pakistan’s ability to host world-class cricketing events, welcoming players and fans from around the globe to experience the country’s passion for the game and renowned hospitality.” said Naqvi
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is confident that the Champions Trophy 2025 will become a hallmark of Pakistan’s capability to host the biggest sporting events. He stated that the tournament not only presents top international players for the country but also gives spectators from other places in the world a chance to enjoy the passion and great hospitality of the country.
PCB Dismisses All The Security Concerns
The PCB is not budging from its stand and has conveyed the message clearly in the sense that it would not give up the rights to host the Champions Trophy 2025. The board is insisting that it will not back down until it gets a written response from BCCI over the security issues raised by India.
Sumair Ahmed “Excited” To Take On New Role
“I am deeply honored and excited to take on this significant responsibility for a tournament that holds immense importance for the Pakistan Cricket Board, our fans and supporters. Preparations are already well underway, with stadium upgrades nearing completion and crucial discussions ongoing with the International Cricket Council.” said Sumair Ahmed in official Press Release by PCB
Setting A New BENCHMARK For Champions Trophy
“Our experienced events team, which has successfully planned and executed nine multi-team HBL Pakistan Super Leagues, including last five in Pakistan, will play a vital role in ensuring the tournament’s success.
“I am committed to working closely with them as well as the International Cricket Council, leaving no stone unturned to exceed the benchmarks set by previous ICC Champions Trophy editions.”
