England got off to a strong start in their five-match T20I series against the West Indies when they thrashed the hosts by eight wickets in the first game of the T20I series at Bridgetown on November 10, Sunday. Phil Salt made it one for himself as he became the very first man to register three T20I centuries against the same side. Salt marked his first century against West Indies in December 2023, when he scored an unbeaten 109* off 56 balls in St George’s. His second came within days of that, when he smashed 119 off 57 balls in Tarouba.
Salt’s Incredible Knock Against West Indies
Salt was in a supreme form on Sunday as well, pounding 103* off 54 balls, including nine fours and six sixes, with a strike rate of 190.74. His knock helped the team chase down a target of 183 as the team reached 183/2 in just 16.5 overs. Jacob Bethell played an important part at the end as well, scoring 58 off 36 balls.
Phil Salt Nears Rohit Sharma’s Record
Salt moved ahead of Sanju Samson who has two T20I centuries and is now closing in on Rohit Sharma’s five T20I centuries. Apart from that, Glenn Maxwell also has five T20I centuries, and Suryakumar Yadav has four.
The earlier bowlers of England were in very good form. As a result, Saqib Mahmood picked four wickets and did not let the West Indies cross 182/9 in their 20 overs. This was especially contributed by Adil Rashid, who had got three wickets that had put the Windies on the backfoot.
