WI Vs ENG: Phil Salt To Resume Wicket-Keeping Duties For Upcoming T20I Series

Star England batter Phil Salt is likely to continue keeping wickets for the team in the forthcoming T20I series against the West Indies, even with the return of captain Jos Buttler, who has recovered from a calf injury. Buttler has missed England’s last white-ball tour against Australia that also included a T20I series which was ended at the draw level while losing a close margin against hosts in ODIs, as well. He would, thus, miss out for the third ODI, against the West Indies; T20Is were headed by Phil Salt while ODI by Harry Brook when Buttler was missing the matches.

Phil Salt Ready To Take On Wicket-Keeping Duties

Before the third ODI at Barbados, Salt has stated that he had hardly any wicket-keeping duties in the recent games played by England. Salt admitted to keeping wickets only 13 times out of the total of 59 matches for his nation. Salt, though has been handed over the wicket-keeping duties by the team management during the ODI series played at home against West Indies. According to ESPNcricinfo, Buttler, who has joined training at Kensington Oval, would be unavailable for the selection to the third ODI. But has been touted to continue for the remaining four ODIs and five-match T20I series in this visit that he will don the Gaffer’s role after that.

“It’s not something I’ve done a lot for England recently. But I enjoy keeping. I feel like that’s where I offer most to the side,” Salt was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying.

The Comeback Of Jos Buttler

Buttler marks his comeback since his early termination from England from semi-final of 2024 World Cup after it suffered by defeat on the hands of Aussies, but could perform much better as he spent a whole June there and started on a winning note since scoring 77 runs and getting a strike rate of 87.50 by having two successful ODI for the West Indies. The ODI series is tied now at 1-1, the West Indies had won the first and now England won the second in reply. Third ODI: Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Wednesday.

The T20I series will commence on November 9 and 10 at Kensington Oval with the opening two matches, while the remaining three T20Is will be played at Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia between England and West Indies on November 14, 16, and 17.
