Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Will Pat Cummins Be Able To ‘Silence’ India ?

The Australian Skipper Pat Cummins highlighted that Australia’s chances to win in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy are bright, India faced a shocking defeat against New Zealand at home as the whitewash against Tom Latham’s side puts India’s hope of landing a place in the 2023-25 World Test Championship final even more tough. Even with Rohit Sharma‘s still leading the table, a few more losses may see them ousted from both the top slots. India has one more home game against the Black Caps at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai before facing Australia in a five-match Test series. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be starting from November 22.

Pat Cummins Looks Forward To Keeping India Quiet

Australian Skipper Pat Cummins mentioned about India, that they’ll look forward to “keep them quiet”. The Aussies are looking forward to register a win and stop India from establishing their dominance again.

“I hope so. I think any time a team’s under pressure, it’s not a bad thing if you’re playing against them. But they’ve been out here before and performed well. Our job is to try and keep them quiet, see how we go,” Cummins told AAP at the launch of his book ‘Tested’ in Sydney.

“It’s kind of the one big thing that I want to tick off. Particularly winning at home. Most Australians, me included, expect us to do well whenever we play at home.”

Australia At A Really Good Place

“We’ve lost the (last) two series against them (in Australia), so this is a big one. We feel like our team is in a really good place, so we’ve got no reason why we shouldn’t perform really well,” Cummins added.

Australia suffered their first series defeat at home during the 2018-19 season. At this point, important personnel, such as Steve Smith and David Warner, were also being suspended, along with another young player, Cameron Bancroft. Coming in next in the season for 2020-21, Australia started brightly after their opening win at the Adelaide Oval, where a fine recovery by the India led them towards victory in the final 2-1. Yet, Cummins still thinks that Australia could make this the time and finally take down the Indian team.
