India fast bowler Mohammed Shami has finally come out and apologized to his fans and the BCCI for not being fit in time for the upcoming five-match Test series against Australia. The reason behind this is that Shami was absent in the squad while the team management included two young bowlers, Prasidh Krishna and Harshit Rana, instead of him.
He shared a video the day after his selection announcement. Shami has shared his workout session inside the gym and shot a message for his followers which reflected that he is trying really hard to get fit in the bowling and mentioned he’d try to return as early as possible to red-ball domestic cricket. He further apologised to his fans and BCCI.

“Putting in my efforts and getting better with my bowling fitness day-by-day. Will continue working hard towards getting ready for the match and to play domestic red ball cricket. Sorry to all cricket fans and bcci too, but very soon I’m ready to play red ball cricket, love you all,” wrote Shami in his Instagram post.
Mohammed Shami’s Ankle Injury
The concerns related to Mohammed Shami’s ankle started during the ODI World Cup 2023, he played the tournament but was experiencing pain and taking injections in order to treat his ankle. But the situation went on to become even worse as he had to undergo a surgery in his right Achilles tendon due to which Shami was ruled out of IPL and T20 World Cup 2024.
He was last seen in India action in the ODI World Cup 2023. In that tournament, Shami took 24 wickets from just seven matches. His average was 10.70 and economy was at 5.26.
Swollen Knee: A New Setback For Shami
He has since reported for rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. But another injury scare dismantled Shami’s hopes to join back the Indian Team. According to Times of India, Shami faced a knee injury while he was on track to make a comeback. Even though the medical team was confident that Shami would recover in time but this definitely derailed his plan to join back the squad.
Shami Working Hard To Regain Full Fitness
Going further Mohammed Shami also mentioned that he wanted to attain full fitness, he also expressed his desire to play few games in domestic cricket before joining India’s squad.
Recently, Shami was spotted bowling to India’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar after India was defeated by New Zealand in the first Test at Bengaluru. Earlier, he had also reacted sharply against the media reports that showed he would be out of action for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT).
However, Shami has not gained complete fitness and will be missing the tour of Australia. Bengal coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla revealed that Shami likely to play two matches for the side during the current Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season.
