New Zealand had a very successful first Test after they defeated India. Rachin Ravindra emerged as the star player of the match as he scored 134 runs in his first innings. But a massive setback has come up for New Zealand as the senior batter Kane Williamson will not be available in the 2nd Test due to his ongoing rehabilitation on a groin strain. The 2nd Test will be starting from October 24, Thursday. The New Zealand coach Gary Stead provided an update about Williamson’s progress and mentioned that he has been doing good but he wasn’t fully fit to resume playing.
Kane Williamson Will Not Play 2nd Test Against India
“We’re monitoring Kane and he’s tracking in the right direction, but isn’t yet 100 per cent fit,” said Stead in a statement issued by New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
“We’re hopeful to see further improvement over the coming days and have him available for the third Test.
“We’ll give him as much time as possible to get himself ready, but certainly continue to take a cautious approach,” he added.
In Tests Kane Williamson has scored 8881 runs in 102 matches, this includes 32 centuries and 35 fifties. Kane Williamson’s absence will a big impact on the team as the star batter brings in experience and his calmness with the bat provides the required stability to the batting order.
