The case post-Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended as head coach for India, with some of his staff members finding new places in the cricket world. Bowling coach under Dravid, Paras Mhambrey has been appointed to join the Mumbai Indians for their stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In a recent interview, head coach Rahul Dravid spoke out on his views about how moving forward would be akin to changing and moving on as well.
Commenting on the transition, Dravid said following India’s T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados on June 29, “I will be able to move on quickly from this win; next week I will be unemployed. I think that’s what life is all about.” A few words very many could agree with changes surfacing in the coaching roster. Trends came from Mhambrey to Mumbai Indians.
While Dravid has signed up with Rajasthan Royals, along with erstwhile batting coach Vikram Rathour, Mhambrey returns to Mumbai Indians – a franchise he had been associated with before his stint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Though officials have not reacted to this so far, it has been confirmed that Mhambrey, who played two Tests and three ODIs, would be part of the MI coaching ensemble when the season goes underway.
Mumbai Indians Coaching Structure
The team which has won the IPL five times, Mumbai Indians, also boasts bowling coach Lasith Malinga. Time will reveal how these bowling and coaching responsibilities are shared. Mahela Jayawardene is the head of all coaching staff across all of Mumbai Indians teams around the world.
Retained Staff
T Dilip, who was a fielding coach under Dravid, has been retained by the BCCI, though he was working with Team India under head coach Gautam Gambhir.
