Gautam Gambhir’s tenure as the head coach of Team India has started well with his first series victory, followed by a 3-0 whitewash over Sri Lanka. However, India were again inferior against spin, as they suffered 0-2 defeats in the ODI leg of the same series. The Test return last week rejuvenated their form, and India thrashed Bangladesh by 280 runs in Gambhir’s first Test at Chennai, reclaiming their top position in the World Test Championship table.
Gautam Gambhir Takes Up The Responsibility Of Team India
The current WTC cycle sees India play three Tests against New Zealand, first up, and then eagerly await the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. And, he will lead the team through T20I contests against Bangladesh and South Africa before the team boards down under. But Gambhir is determined to keep the Indian club intact in international cricket.
With the starting of second Test, Parthiv Patel expressed encouraging words about the team management done by Gambhir. On the other hand, Tamim Iqbal, the opening batsman of Bangladesh, was confident that Gambhir would fulfill the required criteria but asked for it at a time when this man will have significant losses. Tamim found that the “real character” of Gambhir will come in reaction to such situations.
“You can get carried away because India got success under Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri. And there’s a chance that you don’t want to change. But at the same time, it’s important that you bring your own way. And the stories coming out of the dressing room are that people are relaxed, and there’s an intent of winning Test matches,” Patel on JioCinema.
“You tend to perform better with that, and there’s no extra pressure. We all know, he is clear with his messaging. There’s no grey area, it’s either black or white. That’s why India have been very sure about their approach.”
Tamim Iqbal’s Big Statement
“When you’re winning, you don’t know the real character of the man. It’s only when you lose a series, then you lose another, that the real character comes out. No doubt, he is a capable man, but it’s too early. Let India have a bad game, then we will see what comes out,” said Tamim Iqbal
Tamim Iqbal clearly stated that when Team India loses a match that’s when Gautam Gambhir’s real character will show.
