Border-Gavaskar Trophy: ‘Quite Tough To Bowl’, Josh Hazelwood’s BIG Praise For Rohit Sharma

Josh Hazlewood, an Australian fast bowler lavishes praise on Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for scoring runs so effortlessly, even on batting tough conditions.

Since taking over the captaincy after Virat Kohli left the side, Indian skipper Rohit has been a fantastic leader and has been a very successful Test captain. He scored 1,101 runs as captain with four centuries and helped India to the World Test Championship final last year.

Josh Hazelwood Lauds Rohit Sharma’s Batting

“I remember one time India came out, he batted at 5 or 6 and then last time he opened. He’s faced the new ball a lot. I feel like he plays the quicks unbelievably well. The bounce doesn’t seem to worry him, the movement doesn’t. He’s got all the time in the world. So, I find him quite tough to bowl to,” Hazlewood said on Star Sports.

Rohit will face his next big test as skipper late this year in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Hazlewood, who has had a few competitive matches against Rohit on the field, confessed that he finds it really difficult to bowl to the Indian opener and said that when batting, Rohit seems to have all the time in the world.

Rohit Sharma Slips In ICC Test Rankings

Rohit has slid five places but retained his spot in the top ten in the latest ICC Test batting rankings; he failed to make an impact in the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh.

Nathan Lyon Identifies Rohit Sharma & Co Tough Challenge For Australia

Another related development for BGT 2024/25 is that Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has identified Rohit as one of the key players who would give a proper challenge to Australia during the forthcoming series.

“Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant are probably going to be the three really big ones. But then you’ve still got Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Jadeja, and who else will come out—another five, I’m not sure. It’s a pretty amazing line-up they’ve got, so it’s going to be a massive challenge. As I said, if we, as a bowling group, are good enough for long periods, hopefully, we can challenge their defence,” he added.
