In the latest development, Former Uttarakhand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukesh Bora was reportedly arrested on rape charges from Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. According to sources, he was repeatedly on the run for about 3 weeks and seven teams were formed to nab him.
HT reported, Nitin Lohani, Circle Officer in Haldwani has confirmed the news of his arrest and said further details will be shared at a press conference later.
Bora was accused of raping a 36-year-old woman after promising to give her a job and molesting her daughter. He was promptly sacked as the administrator of the Uttarakhand Cooperative Dairy Federation after the rape allegations surfaced. He was booked along with his driver, Kamal Belwal.
The victim alleged that Bora raped her several times and even claimed that driver Belwal threatened to kill her when she refused to get physical with the associates of Bora. The Uttarakhand Police formed more than seven teams to search for Bora and booked four people who helped him escape.
The Uttarakhand High Court on September 21 disposed of the anticipatory bail application filed by Bora stating that there is no such provision under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The Nainital Police earlier seized the properties of Bora during the probe on September 20.
