Second round of talks between West Bengal government and agitating junior doctors went in vain as the meeting didn’t yield any result. Previous meeting between the junior doctors and the West Bengal government was also a deadlock. Earlier, the dialogue between state government & junior doctors to resolve the issue was delayed due to various reasons. The medics later agreed for the meeting and a delegation of junior doctors reached West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s residence for first round of talks. The doctors then demanded second round of talks as their demands remain unsolved.

The second meeting took place on Wednesday and went for two-and-a-half hours. Despite the meeting ending on a positive note, the junior doctors announced to continue their agitation and cease the work until the government issues written directives on the safety and security measures for doctors in state-run hospitals as discussed and agreed during the meeting.

According to the doctors, the West Bengal government refused to hand over written minutes of the issues that were discussed in the meeting. They felt disappointed over the government’s denial of issuing written minutes. The doctors said that most of their demands were agreed and accepted.

There have been many developments since the story came to light. There has been an allegation of widespread corruption at government run hospitals. Safety and security of the doctors, nurses and hospital staffs have been the major demand of the agitating junior doctors from day one. The doctors have asked the state government to accept their legitimate demands.

The meeting was held at state secretariat at 6:30 PM between West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant and junior doctors. With the West Bengal government refusing to issue the written directive the junior doctors have decided to carry on with their agitation.
