Curtly Ambrose, the former West Indies fast bowler who played 15 Tests against India in a career that included over 400 wickets talks about some current-generation batters he would pick to bowl at.
Curtly Ambrose Would Like To Bowl Against Virat Kohli
One of the finest fast bowlers the game has seen statistically, Ambrose ended his career with a total tally of 630 international wickets, including 405 in Tests at an average under 21. Ambrose, who faced a number of the best modern-day players during his playing days, has now revealed three current talents he’d most like to bowl against – and Kohli is accompanied in Ambrose’s top-three wish list by Australian batting machine Steve Smith along with England captain Joe Root.
“Virat, Smith, Root,” Ambrose was quoted as saying by ANI.
Kohli, Root and Smith, have established themselves as the best batters of their respective countries.
Kohli reached an all-time high in ODI hundreds in the record books and also became the highest run-getter in the T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Root and Smith have compiled sizeable runs in Test cricket and fastened their status as red-hot property in the red-ball format.
Ambrose Names Wasim Akram As His Favourite Bowler
Ambrose also touched on the aspect of how bowlers are usually overshadowed by batters when fans are naming their favorite cricketers. He promised to always have a bowler as my favorite cricketer, should he get asked, with Pakistan’s Wasim Akram amongst his top picks.
“Yes, I feel so sometimes. I have been in cricket for so long. Most of the time, if you ask someone their favourite cricketer, they would name a batter. I have played some great matches with them, and I admire them. But as a former fast bowler, I will lean towards the bowlers. Wasim Akram is one of my favourite fast bowlers,” he added.
Akram is one of the legend who stands at the sixth in the list of international wicket-takers with a total 916 which includes 502 in 356 ODIs and 414 in 104 Tests.
