India in Australia: Batting throughout IPL was disappointing, but have now ‘found my hands’, says Steve Smith

Under Steve Smith’s captaincy, Rajasthan Royals ended up last on the points table in IPL 2020. Given the kind of batsman he is, Smith’s own personal record in IPL 2020 wasn’t much of a positive show either. In 14 matches, Smith amassed 311 runs averaging 25.91 with a strike rate of 131.22 and scored 3 fifties.

However, according to the star batsman, Smith has found his rhythm ahead of the white-ball and red-ball fixtures against India. Australia’s home summer begins on November 27 with a 3-match ODI series against India and Smith, having returned from the UAE, is in isolation in Sydney and is sweating it out in the nets.

“I was pretty disappointed actually with my batting throughout the IPL. I never really got into a good rhythm. The past few days I have found something … I have found my hands which I am extremely excited about. It’s just getting that feel of the bat behind my toe the right way, the way my hands come up the bat.

But it just hasn’t quite been right until two days ago. I found a little something and everything just clicked in. I had a big smile on my face after training the other day,” Smith told reporters on Tuesday.

Considered as the best Test batsman in the world for his incredible average of 62.84, Steve Smith has a more extraordinary average of 84.05 in Tests and 60.46 in ODI. This announcement is but a warning for the touring India side of what’s awaiting them.

“In big series I try and stand up and get the best out of myself. Whether there is something more inside me that comes out, I’m not sure,” Smith added.

The 4-match Test series, succeeding the 3 T20Is ending on December 8, will be played from December 17 to January 19.
