Nine people died in rain-related incidents across Telangana as heavy downpour continued to hit many parts of the state, including Hyderabad.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy conducted an emergency review due to the ongoing heavy rains in the state. He spoke with ministers by phone about relief efforts in flooded areas, according to an official release. During a teleconference with senior officials, the chief minister instructed departments like Municipal Administration, Energy, and Panchayati Raj to stay alert for the next 24 hours.

He instructed district Collectors, SPs, and officials from Revenue, Irrigation, and Municipal departments to visit flood-affected areas. The authorities were told to provide immediate relief in these areas. Due to heavy rains, streams overflowed, flooding low-lying areas and cutting off road connections between villages. The heavy rain and strong winds also uprooted trees, with branches falling onto roads.

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy stated that timely precautionary measures helped save lives and property. However, despite these efforts, nine people still lost their lives in different rain-related incidents across the state.

Three people are feared to have been washed away in Mahabubabad and Khammam districts. In districts like Suryapet, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, and Khammam, authorities evacuated residents from several flood-hit villages to safer areas, according to the Minister. He also mentioned that some people in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area were moved to relief camps as a precaution, due to the risk of old rain-soaked houses collapsing.

He stated that District Collectors have been instructed to declare a holiday for educational institutions on September 2, depending on local conditions. Due to the heavy rain forecast in Hyderabad district, officials announced a holiday for all Primary and Secondary Schools under all managements (Government, Aided, and Private) on September 2 as a precaution to ensure the safety of the children.
