At least 28 people have tragically died in Gujarat over the past three days as incessant rain and waterlogging continue to wreak havoc across the state. About 18000 people have been evacuated until now from the flood-stricken areas. Gujarat Health Minister, Rushikesh Patel informed that more than 5,000 individuals had been rehabilitated and over 12,000 rescued in Vadodara alone until August 28.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached out to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and extended the Centre’s support in battling the situation. The PM expressed his concern over the flooding of the Vishwamitri river in Vadodara and sought information on the situation, CM Patel added.

Bridge Section Washed Away

As per ANI reports, the road linking Padana Patiya to Changa Patiya in Jamnagar is now closed and a section of a small bridge over Sir P.N. Road is washed away due to flooding. Traffic movement has been disrupted in the area and rescue operations by NDRF and SDRF are in full swing amid the grave threat.

10 Crocodiles Rescued Amid Flood

According to Range Forest Officer Karansinh Rajput, over the past 5 days, 10 crocodiles were rescued. Additionally, two crocodiles have been released and 8 will be freed when the river water level decreases.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Gujarat, which is reeling under relentless rain. IMD stated that a deep depression advancing from Gujarat Coast is likely to intensify into cyclonic storm, towards the Saurashtra region on August 30. Extreme rainfall is expected to cause turmoil in Kutch and Saurashtra regions.
