Recently, actor Akshay Oberoi revealed in an interview that his good friend Imran Khan, who was once a successful lead star has quit acting. Even though Imran wasn’t seen acting for half-a-decade, the revelation of him quitting acting went viral in no time.
Even before Akshay’s revelation about Imran, the Jaane Tu…Yaa Jaane Na actor was in news for the alleged trouble in his marriage. However, on the professional front, he was nowhere to be found.
Similarly, there have been other such celebs who have made a dash when they arrived on the scene but after a few films and vanished from the limelight.
Take a look at the list of 5 such celebs who are now now where to be found in the limelight:
Imran Khan
Imran Khan made his dream debut with the 2008 hit Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na, produced by his uncle Aamir Khan. He followed it up with several forgettable (Kidnap, Luck) as well as highly successful films (I Hate Luv Storys, Delhi Belly, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan). However, after a spate of flops in Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara! and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, Imran Khan’s career as lead star faltered. In 2015, he returned to films after a gap of two years with Katti Batti. But the movie failed miserably at the box office. It has now been stated that he has quit acting and has turned director for Karan Johar’s Dharmatic.
Uday Chopra
Uday Chopra, son of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra, had a dream debut as lead star in his elder brother Aditya Chopra’s 2000 blockbuster Mohabbatein. The movie also starred Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. He then starred in several films but barring Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, all failed at the box office. His career took a turn when Dhoom released in 2004 and became a cult hit. While all other films of his as lead star failed, Dhoom series (Dhoom 2 and Dhoom 3) kept the boat afloat.
It’s been seven years since we saw Uday acting in films. He turned producer for Hollywood films Grace of Monaco and The Longest Week but unfortunately both the movies, starring some known names in west, failed at the box office.
Fardeen Khan
Son of legendary Feroz Khan, Fardeen Khan made a forgettable debut with the 1998 dud Prem Aggan. However, with Ram Gopal Varma’s 2000 hit Jungle, Fardeen’s career as lead star kick-started. He went on to star in several successful and acclaimed films like Pyar Tune Kya Kiya,Bhoot, Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, Dev, No Entry, Heyy Babyy and All The Best.
Fardeen was last seen acting in the 2010 dud Dulha Mil Gaya co-starring Sushmita Sen and Shah Rukh Khan in a special appearance. It has been more than a decade since we saw him on the big screen. In the recent years, Fardeen was in news for his weight gain.
Harman Baweja
Harman Baweja, son of filmmaker Harry Baweja, made his debut with the sci-fi Love Story 2050 costarring Priyanka Chopra. The movie made a lot of noise upon its release but failed at the box office. Interestingly, it had released on the same day as Imran Khan’s debut film Jaane Tu…Yaa Jaane Na. Harman Baweja then starred in two more ambitious films like Victory and What’s Your Raashee? but both failed. Five years later, in 2014, Harman returned to acting with Shilpa Shetty’s Dishkiyaoon. Co-starring Sunny Deol, the Shilpa Shetty produced film flopped as well.
Years later, Harman too was in news when he was spotted in public but looked unrecognisable due to weight gain. Harman will now be seen in Anees Bazmee’s It’s My Life. The movie was shot more than a decade back and is finally releasing on November 29 on Zee Cinema.
Zayed Khan
Son of veteran actor and filmmaker Sanjay Khan and cousin brother of Fardeen Khan, Zayed Khan made his debut with 2003 dud Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne. However, it was his 2004 superhit Main Hoon Na co-starring Shah Rukh Khan that got him nationwide fame and a lot of acclaim. Apart from Main Hoon Na, Zayed also starred in hit film like Dus. However, his other films failed at the box office which include, Blue, Cash, Mission Instanbul, Rocky: The Rebel, Vaada. He turned producer with 2011 flop Love Breakups Zindagi.
Zayed was last seen acting in 2015 film Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene. After a failed stint as Bollywood star, Zayed turned toward small screen but his show Haasil that aired between 2017-2018 failed to grab eyeballs.
A few months back, his father Sanjay Khan stated in an interview that he will be relaunching his son with a biopic on the life of 1947 India-Pakistan war hero Brigadier Mohammad Usman.
