Veteran Congress leader and  MP from Nanded Vasant Chavan passed away on Monday in Hyderabad after battling illness for a long time. His last rites will  be performed in Nanded. The senior Congress leader was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad.

The politician from Maharashtra started his political journey as sarpanch of Naigaon village in 1978. He joined Congress Party in 2014 and was elected to the Nanded Lok Sabha seat. Besides, during his term, he was also Chairperson of Janta High School and College of Agriculture in Naigaon.

Paying tribute to the deceased leader, President of  Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Chairman Nana Patole took to social media platform X  and wrote in a post that he was shocked. He praised the ex-MP for staying loyal to Congress even in ‘adverse conditions’.

Other political leaders have also expressed their grief over the death of the MP. In the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, MP Vasantrao Chavan defeated BJP’s Prataprao Govindrao Chikhalikar. Despite ill health, he won Nanded constituency seat with 46% vote share in the constituency.
