In a significant development, CM Mohan Majhi announced the implementation of the Subhadra Scheme in the state legislative assembly. Under the scheme, Rs. 50,000 will be provided in installments to one crore Subhadras’ of Odisha. One crore women aged between 21 and 60 will be benefitted through this scheme.
During the elections, the BJP Government promised the implementation of this scheme to support women in Odisha. The Bharatiya Janata Party led by Mohan Majhi came to power in Odisha by defeating CM Naveen Patnaik and toppling the BJD government. Addressing the house, CM Majhi announced on Friday, August 24 that Subhadra Scheme has been approved for implementation to empower women, starting from the financial year 2024-25 to 2028-29. A press release by the Chief Minister of Odisha stated that a total fund of Rs 55,825 crore is allocated for the scheme.
Who Are Eligible?
CM Mohan Charan Majhi informs that the scheme would change the livelihood of women of Odisha. About one crore women will be eligible with an age group between 21 and 60 years. A total amount of Rs 10,000 will annually be paid in two installments on Rakhi Purnima and International Women’s Day. In this way, the scheme would be beneficial to the eligible women.
He further adds that the payment will be made through the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS). The beneficiary would directly be paid in their Aadhaar-enabled single-holder (DBT) bank account. The beneficiaries will also be issued Subhadra Debit Card (SDC).
Under the scheme, the beneficiaries can also earn additional incentives of Rs 500 for themselves. The Majhi government has come up with a plan to encourage digital transactions and support the initiative of Digital India. He said that each gram panchayat and urban local body will identify 100 beneficiaries with maximum digital transactions, to be paid a Rs 500 bonus.
Who Are Not Eligible?
CM Majhi said that the state government is committed to ‘Antyodaya’. Women who are not eligible to benefit from the Subhadra Scheme include-
- Economically well-to-do families
- Government servants
- Income Tax payees
In his address, CM said, “Women who receive assistance of ₹1,500 or more monthly or ₹18,000 or more per year under any other government scheme will also be ineligible.”
How To Avail The Scheme?
Forms will be available at Anganwadi centers, block offices, Mo Seva Kendras, and Jan Seva Kendras (free of cost). Women can apply by filling out the form. Besides, a Subhadra society will be set up for implementation and monitoring of the scheme by the Women and Child Development Dept.
