The parents of the doctor who was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata have issued a very emotional appeal to the nation, in which they asked for support until all suspects are nabbed in the case. Their emotional appeal came amid growing dissatisfaction with the handling of the investigation.
Victim’s family slams CM for inaction
The mother of the deceased doctor, in a statement to the media recently, expressed her thanks to everyone for standing by their side but further appealed that it was time for continued solidarity. ‘We request that you stand with us till the time the accused are caught. We only wish that this should not happen to any mother, no one should lose their child like us,’ she said, as quoted by ANI.
Angry parents of the students have now targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of not taking up the case seriously and trying to suppress the voice of public protest. ‘She said the culprits would be arrested as soon as possible, but only one person has been held. I am sure more people in the hospital are involved.’ ‘I feel the CM is trying to suppress the protests,’ the victim’s mother alleged. Flaying the police for imposing prohibitory orders to scatter protesters, she said it was their ploy to suppress the voices of protesters.
Shocking conditions: family doubts suicide claim
The parents of the doctor narrated a shocking series of events after the recovery of her body. Firstly, the hospital administration told them that their daughter had committed suicide. ‘On admission to the hospital, we were not allowed to see her. Her body was in a manner that indicated she had been murdered,” the mother claimed. She added that her daughter’s body was found in a shocking condition, saying that the body showed visible signs of violence which made her believe that this was a murder rather than suicide.
The family seems to have lost faith in the state government’s handling of the case and has now turned to the Central Bureau of Investigation in the hope that justice might be delivered. ‘Early on I had full faith in her, now no. She is asking for justice but what is she saying that for? She can take charge of that, she is doing nothing,’ said the victim’s father.
They have also given a page from the diary of their daughter to the CBI, wishing that it would help in the investigation. They now appeal to the state and national governments to ensure justice and to take such steps so that such tragedies may not recur again.
