India is witnessing widespread protest against the brutal Kolkata rape murder of 31-year old doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. It is yet another incident that has shaken the country and people are raging with anger that has triggered protests nationwide. There are ongoing demonstrations in medical colleges and hospitals. With all the people in country being united, Indian cricketer Mohammed Siraj took to his Instagram to post a story about the rape incidents that keep happening in the country.

He shared a collage of all news headlines which shows rape incidents that have taken place in the country. The same collage was also shared by Indian actress Anushka Sharma

A civic volunteer was taken into custody in relation with the rape and murder case of the doctor. The matter has been handed to the CBI on August 13. But protests have broken out all over the country. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) announced a nationwide strike which started from morning, August 17.

Leading singer AP Dhillon also expressed his anger over the tragic incident. He shared a note on his instagram story saying,

“Woke up today wanting to let my thoughts out the only way I know how…”.

The note was followed by a video where he was singing a heartfelt song about women’s plight in the country.

“She has saved many lives and souls. God, how could her fate end so tragically? She was not safe even in a place where everyone knew her. Today, we all ask you, is it a curse to be born a girl in this world?” read the translated lyrics, sung in Punjabi.

“For the women who have transformed the world, society has refused to change around them, though they have swum oceans worth of progress, society has barely moved an inch. What happened 12 years ago continues to happen today. Why do we still have to march for women to live in peace?” he further sang.
