Shreyas Iyer will be eyeing to make a solid comeback in the domestic circuit by joining Mumbai for a single four-day match in the Buchi Babu Tournament, which will be held at four venues in Tamil Nadu. The tournament will be starting from 15 August, Thursday.
Iyer will be re-united with Suryakumar Yadav in Mumbai for their second round clash against Jammu and Kashmir in Coimbatore from August 27 to 30. His appearance would mark his appearance with Mumbai after coming back from the Indian ODI side earlier this month.
The Buchi Babu Tournament will be featuring 12 teams, featuring a mix of state and TNCA based team. There would be multiple venues in Tamil Nadu for the tournament.
BCCI had left Iyer out of the central contract earlier this month due to which he wasn’t available for selection for the Test team followed by some fitness issues. The batter also played for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy. His excellent leadership skills were seen in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he led Kolkata Knight Riders towards a victory. This helped him secure a ticket back to the national team.
The chief of Mumbai Cricket Association, Sanjay Patil stated that the middle-order batsmen showed interest in playing red-ball cricket.
“Shreyas showed keen interest in playing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Tournament. He is eager to play red-ball cricket. Though Shreyas and Surya will be playing only one match, it will be a strong message to other state teams that Test players are also keen to play for Mumbai,” MCA chief selector Sanjay Patil told mid-day.
Shreyas Iyer will be looking forward to his Test comeback
Iyer was left out of the Indian Team during the Test series against England, whereas Sarfaraz Khan his fellow teammate in the Mumbai State Team received maiden Test call-up. In order to secure a position in the middle order Iyer will put his best foot forward. India will be preparing for a Test home season followed by the most significant Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
