Gurmeet Ram Rahim Granted New Parole After High Court Ruling
Gurmeet, who is serving a sentence for rape and murder, has been granted another parole. This follows the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s decision on August 9 to reject the SGPC’s petition against his temporary release. The court ruled that requests for temporary release should be handled fairly and without bias.
Ram Rahim, serving a 20-year sentence for raping two disciples, is currently in Sunaria Jail in Rohtak. On February 29, the High Court instructed the Haryana Government not to grant him parole without its approval. In June, Ram Gurmeet had asked the court for a 21-day furlough.
This is the 10th parole granted to the Dera chief in the past four years. In October 2022, he received a 40-day parole. Before that, he was given a month-long parole in June 2022 and a three-week furlough on February 7, 2022.
