The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has extended the deadline for the Sole Arbitrator to issue a decision on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal. Phogat is challenging her disqualification from the women’s 50 kg freestyle final at the Paris Olympics for being 100 grams overweight during the second-day weigh-in.

The ad hoc division of CAS has given Sole Arbitrator Dr. Annabelle Bennett more time to make a decision in the Vinesh Phogat case. The new deadline is 6:00 p.m. on August 13, 2024, according to an IOA official.

An official from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) told IANS on Saturday that the detailed decision will be released later. The IOA is involved in the case as an affected party.

The parties involved have until August 11 to submit any additional information if they choose to.

Earlier on Saturday morning, the Ad-Hoc Division of CAS announced that it would make its decision on Vinesh Phogat’s case at 6:00 p.m. (9:30 p.m. IST) on Saturday.

CAS To Decide On Vinesh Phogat’s Appeal For Shared Silver Medal

Vinesh is challenging her disqualification from the 50kg gold medal match and has asked CAS to award her a shared silver medal with Yusneylis Guzman Lopez at the Paris Olympics.

Sole Arbitrator Dr. Annabelle Bennett from Australia listened to all parties—Vinesh Phogat, United World Wrestling, the International Olympic Committee, and the Indian Olympic Association—over a three-hour session.

“Vinesh Phogat, United World Wrestling (UWW), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) are involved in this case. According to Article 18 of the CAS Arbitration Rules for the Olympic Games, the President of the CAS Ad Hoc Division has extended the deadline for the Panel to make a decision until 6:00 p.m. Paris time on August 10, 2024,” CAS announced in a statement on Saturday.
