Morne Morkel won’t be joining the Indian team on their trip to Sri Lanka. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has arranged a temporary solution by appointing Sairaj Bahutule, who works with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, as the interim bowling coach for the six-match white-ball series in Sri Lanka.
Bahutule will be added to the coaching staff led by Gautam Gambhir, which, as initially reported by Cricbuzz, also features Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches. T Dilip, who was part of the previous coaching setup under Rahul Dravid, will remain as the bowling coach. All the coaches will travel to Sri Lanka with the players.
Although the Indian cricket board has not officially confirmed it, reports suggest that T Dilip is expected to continue as the fielding coach. Additionally, Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate are likely to be added to the coaching team for the Sri Lanka series.
The Indian team will depart for Sri Lanka from Mumbai on Monday. Prior to their departure, Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the men’s senior selection committee, and the new head coach Gautam Gambhir will hold a media briefing. It is uncertain whether the appointments of the support staff will be confirmed during this media interaction, as the BCCI has not yet provided any official information.
