The Delhi Police uniform and T-shirt are soon going to change. Trials have already begun in one district regarding this. A senior police officer has confirmed this and mentioned that while the color of the uniform will remain khaki, its fabric, design, and other aspects will be completely revamped. Several samples have been received, and trials are underway for one of these samples.
As reported by NavBharat Times, changes are being made to the uniform from constables to inspectors. Currently, trials for the cargo and T-shirt uniform are underway in the Central District, where some constables, including female officers, are currently wearing these uniforms. They are being asked whether they find it comfortable to wear. Regarding the design, each police officer has their own opinion. Some are liking this new attire of the police, while others are not. They want if changes are being made, then something better should be done. Like in America, the police wear deep blue uniforms, the same kind of uniform should be given here.
Uniform Diversity Plans
A senior police officer disclosed that discussions are ongoing regarding changes not only to the uniform but also to the footwear, jackets, and traffic police attire, considering the comfort of police personnel. Plans are being made to have separate uniforms for office staff, law and order personnel, and traffic police based on their roles, as each has distinct responsibilities and needs. For instance, officers working in the field require items like phones, diaries, and files to be readily accessible.
Plan For Winter
There are plans underway to introduce an inner layer for Delhi Police personnel tailored for winter conditions. This inner layer will provide a sense of warmth even at zero-degree temperatures. Soldiers wearing only shirts on top will not feel the cold much. Moreover, there is considerable deliberation regarding the choice of fabric for the uniform. Some uniforms will feature stretchable fabric. Additionally, discussions are ongoing about which fabric will be suitable for which season and ensuring its quality.
A senior police officer stated that the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) has conducted extensive research on the Delhi Police uniform. They have collaborated with several prominent institutions to work on Delhi Police uniforms. They are in contact with companies that produce fabrics suitable for temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius. The officer mentioned that they expect many positive changes to be implemented soon.
