Why he is not playing?: Murali Vijay questions ‘next batting superstar’ Prithvi Shaw’s absence from Team India

Prithvi Shaw is one of the most talented youngsters in Indian cricket at present. The 23-year-old right-handed batter has already made his debut for Team India in all three formats of the game but is currently out of the picture despite scoring big runs in domestic cricket as well as in the IPL. The former India U-19 World Cup-winning team captain last played for India in July 2021. He was selected in the T20I squad for a three-match series against New Zealand earlier this year after a gap of more than 18 months but didn’t get a chance to play.
Shaw was not considered for the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy as well, despite playing a record-breaking innings of 379 runs in the Ranji Trophy. He will next be seen in action during the 2023 season of the IPL, where he will represent the Delhi Capitals.
Shaw’s continued absence from Team India has been questioned by many fans and former greats on many occasions in the past, and the latest one to join the list is former Indian opening batter Murali Vijay.
According to Vijay, Shaw can be the next batting superstar for Team India along with Shubman Gill, but he has no idea why Shaw isn’t playing for Team India.
“There are 15 superstars playing for India. If you are playing for India, you are already a superstar for me. But skill-wise, I really love Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw. They are top players. Rishabh Pant has done a great job for Indian cricket as well. I wish him a speedy recovery. Shreyas Iyer is doing well,” Vijay told the Hindustan Times when asked about the next Indian batting superstar.
“I don’t know why he (Shaw) is not playing now. You should ask the team management,” he said when asked about the Mumbaikar’s absence from the Indian squad.
Shaw made his Test debut for India against the West Indies in October 2018 and scored a century in his maiden innings. He has played a total of 5 Tests, 6 ODIs and 1 T20I for the Men in Blue till date, in which he has scored 339, 189, and 0 runs, respectively.
