The Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat train was pelted with stones in Murshidabad district’s Farakka in West Bengal in late evening on Saturday. The incident comes just a month after some miscreants pelted stones at the same train.
Window panes of the high-speed train were broken were it was attacked on Saturday evening. “This is a very unfortunate incident. It will be investigated,” chief public relations officer of Eastern Railway Kausik Mitra was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
In January also, some miscreants had attacked newly-launched Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express train, damaging its window pane. Earlier, on the second day of its operation, stones were thrown at two coaches of the train in Malda and the next day in Kishanganj.
Stone pelting on Vande Bharat trains
In February miscreants pelted stones at Secunderabad-Vishakhapatnam Vande Bharat Express when it was passing through Mahabubabad district in Telangana. In January, the train plying on the same route suffered damage due to stone pelting by drunk miscreants at Kancharapalem, Visakhapatnam. During that incident, the windows and glass pane of the train were damaged.
On February 23, two windows of a coach of Vande Bharat Mysuru-Chennai Express (20608) were damaged when some miscreants threw stones at the train. No one was injured in the incident, which occurred between KR Puram and Cantonment railway stations.
The train was again attacked when it was passing through Bihar’s Katihar. The escort party of 22302 down Vande Bharat Express said passengers on berth no.70 in coach 6 informed them of stone pelting while crossing Dalkhola-Telta railway station.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express virtually on December 30.
