While RRR’s team has been busy promoting the film in the USA as Naatu Naatu has been nominated for the Oscars under the Best Original song category, it appears that the film’s promotion budget has been a topic of controversy back home. Director Tammareddy Bharadwaja’s controversial comments on RRR’s budget have created a huge stir in the Telugu film industry.
RRR’s promotional budget is Rs 80 crore?
For the unversed, just a couple of days back director Tammareddy Bharadwaja participated in a press meet, where he made a sensational comment about RRR’s budget. Alleging that the Oscar-nominated film had been made on a budget of Rs 600 crore, the director-producer also slammed the RRR team over its Oscar promotion expenses of Rs 80 crore. “Now they have spent another Rs 80 crore for its Oscar promotions, therefore we can make eight to ten films out of its promotional budget itself,” he had said.
Following this, filmmaker Raghavendra Rao criticized Tammareddy for his comment about the SS Rajamouli directorial. Taking to Twitter, Raghavendra wrote, “Telugu cinema, literature, actors and directors should be proud of the success that we are getting on the world stage today for the first time. Do you have any accounts to say that Rs 80 crores have been really spent by the RRR team? And do you think that renowned directors such as James Cameron and Spielberg are praising ‘RRR’ for taking the money from us?”
