Team India celebrated Holi, the festival of colours in Ahmedbad ahead of the fourth Test against Australia. Since the festival was celebrated in Gujarat and Maharashtra a day before, all the players and coaching staff indulged themselves in fun-filled celebrations with colours in the team hotel as well as on the bus. As on the field, skipper Rohit Sharma took charge off the field as well, as he didn’t leave a single person clean and applied colours to everyone including the ones who were the most apprehensive, Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara.
After playing with colours with Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav in the hotel, Rohit rushed into the bus. He first applied colour on Kohli while asking Jadeja to join him saying “Laga laga Virat ko laga (Put colour on Virat too.)” Before everyone surrounded the most reserved and quiet of them all, Pujara.
The BCCI shared the video of a fun Holi celebration filled with laughter and camaraderie.
In the northern parts of the country, the festival of colours is being celebrated on Wednesday, March 8. The Indian team will be in action from Thursday, March 9 onwards.
The hosts need to be at their A-game following a shock defeat against Australia in the third Test in Indore. With the series poised at 2-1, the hosts may be ahead, however, with the World Test Championship (WTC) points at stake, the hosts can’t afford another slip-up. Australia have already qualified for the WTC final and India have to win to seal their spot unless they want to get qualification out of their control.
If India win, the same fixture will take place again from June 7-11 at Oval in London. However, if they lose, they will have to hope for Sri Lanka’s loss to New Zealand at least in one of the two Test matches the two sides play starting March 9.
