Bill Gates, a businessman, author and philanthropist, commands a net worth of $115 billion at this time, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index — a daily ranking of the world’s richest people.
With this fortune, the Microsoft founder is currently sitting at the fourth position on the list of wealthiest people, behind French businessman Bernard Arnault, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.
Gates co-founded Microsoft and served as its chairman and CEO. He now owns just around 1 percent of Microsoft. Over the years, the billionaire has sold Microsoft shares for tens of billions of dollars.
Despite owning this meagre shareholding in Microsoft, Gates is one of the richest tycoons in the world. He and his ex-wife Melinda Gates are the biggest names in the tech world.
Even though Gates is worth around $115 billion and his ex-wife Melinda is worth over $800 million, the Gates children are not entitled to any inheritance.
Both Bill Gates and Melinda decided to donate the money to philanthropic work and they run the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which focuses on the betterment of the society, and works toward eradicating diseases and poverty.
In 2018, Bill Gates said in an interview, “It’s not a favour to kids to have them have huge sums of wealth. It distorts anything they might do, creating their own path.”
Meanwhile as per the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bernard Arnault has replaced Elon Musk from the numero uno position on the list of world’s richest people. Arnault has a net worth of $189 billion and Musk has a fortune of $181 billion, as per the latest data. Amazon’s Bezos commands a fortune of $118 billion, sitting at the third position on the Bloomberg billionaires list.
