‘Mr Nagpur Wakeelsaab…’: Mahua Moitra’s sharp dig at Harish Salve for demanding probe against Hindenburg

TMC MP Mahua Moitra  lashed out at senior advocate Harish Salve for demanding a detailed probe against the US-based short seller Hindenburg Research, whose recent report on the Adani group triggered market volatility last month.
The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered a time-bound probe into allegations levelled by Hindenburg Research against the Adani group. The apex court ordered setting up of a six-member panel to investigate the recent Adani Group shares crash and other regulatory aspects related to stock markets
Hitting out at Salve for demanding a probe against Hindenburg Research, Moitra tweeted, “Loving way fat cat ex SG sitting pretty in London lecturing on how Hindenburg is to blame for middle class India’s Adani share losses! Mr. Nagpur Wakeelsaab make your fees from Adani while you can. Noone can save Humpty Dumpty this time, Sir!”
She further said that Salve should continue to defend “his client” in a court of law by all means. “Doing paid PR for him on news channels as a fake independant expert voice is where the problem lies,” she added.
The Hindenburg Research report has made several allegations against the business conglomerate led by industrialist Gautam Adani, including fraudulent transactions and share-price manipulation. Following the report, the Adani Group shares recorded a sharp plunge.
The Adani Group has refuted the allegations as lies, saying it complies with all laws and disclosure requirements.
The panel set up by the Supreme Court has been asked to submit its report in a sealed cover within two months. Former Supreme Court judge AM Sapre will head the committee tasked to oversee the probe into the Adani Group share crash. Other members will be OP Bhat, retired Bombay High Court judge JP Devadhar, KV Kamath, Nandan Nilekani and Somasekharan Sundaresan.
