India are currently taking on Australia in the 3rd Test of the 4-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Indore, after having won the first two games in comprehensive fashion. Rohit Sharma and Co. came in to the game, with the aim of winning the match and securing their place in the final of the World Test Championship. However, fate had other plans for the host team as the Indian batting lineup fell like a pack of cards. However, amidst this a surprising statistic came to light as Umesh Yadav equalled a batting tally of Virat Kohli.
After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma decided to bat first, but the Indian batting fell victim to the rank turning pitch of the Holkar Stadium. India lost their first 8 wickets for 88 runs as Umesh Yadav walked in to bat. Yadav did not bow down to the pressure of the scoreboard, and played in his usual attacking style. He came in and straightway hit two sixes. one off Matthew Kuhnemann and one off Todd Murphy. This led to the fast bowler increase his tally of sixes in Test Cricket to 24. He thus equalled Virat Kohli’s tally of 24 sixes in his Test career. In fact, he beat Ravi Shastri’s tally of 22 sixes to become the joint 17th highest six-hitter for India in the longest format of the game.
Virender Sehwag tops the list for being the Indian with most sixes in Test Cricket with a tally of 91, followed by MS Dhoni (78), Sachin Tendulkar (69), Rohit Sharma (68) and Kapil Dev (61).
Coming back to the game, India were all out for 109 runs. Young left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann was the star of the show for Australia as he picked up his maiden 5-wicket haul for the national team. Nathan Lyon chipped in with 3 scalps with Todd Murphy picking up the wicket of Virat Kohli.
