Gujarat Giants (GG) have become the latest team to announce their captain for the 2023 Women’s Premier League (WPL). The winner of the 2023 T20 World Cup’s Player of the Tournament (POTM) award and GG’s Rs. 3.2 crore signing lost out on the top job to teammate Beth Mooney.
Opening batter Mooney, who won the Player of the Match (POTM) award in Sunday’s T20 World Cup, will lead the Adani Sportsline-owned franchise in the inaugural season of the WPL. Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana has been named the vice captain of the franchise
“I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the Adani Gujarat Giants in the historic Women’s Premier League’s inaugural edition in 2023. The squad is keen to get the ball rolling soon and put out an entertaining and effective brand of cricket in the debut season of the WPL. It will be fantastic to have the likes of Sneh as my deputy and Mithali Raj, Rachael Haynes and Nooshin Al Khadeer as pivotal parts of the team,” Mooney in a statement of the Giants’ website.
“Being the vice captain of the Adani Gujarat Giants is a huge responsibility and I am keenly looking forward to putting up a great show for the debut edition of the Women’s Premier League. “Along with captain Beth Mooney, I hope to lead a strong and talented squad during the tournament,” said vice-captain Rana.
